Humbrol is possibly best known for the enamel paints manufactured for use with plastic model kits, such as Airfix, Tamiya and Revell kits. The paints come in a variety of finishes: matt, satin, gloss, metallic and metalcote.
Humbrol was founded in the UK in 1919. The company entered administration in 2006, but was acquired by Hornby that same year.
In 2022 Enamel paint was temporarily withdrawn from the market. The problem had to do with a chemical they were using, which was reclassified. This meant that they could no longer sell this chemical to the public.
The chemical in question would not be good for the environment. It would not have harmed users.
