FIRE STATION

DESCRIPTION

Historical fire station 1 Nuremberg

Re-release in 2021

Original reproduction of the Fire Station 1 in Nuremberg built in 1902 as still in operation today. Block of several buildings accommodating various rooms used as squad quarters, joiner’s workshop, fitter’s shop, clothing room, telecommunications department, first-aid post, operations room, hose drying room. 5-stall engine hall, the 3 large double-wing gates of which can be opened and closed manually. The construction of this fire station began in 1900 and was already finished and ready for operation in Mai 1902. Once planned for horse-drawn emergency vehicles, today it still fulfils the tasks of a highly engineered world of fire fighting. The former horse stables were converted into vehicle parking spaces. At that time the high timber-framed tower served as a hose drying room. The squad’s sleeping quarters, the clothing and equipment room, kitchen, dining room, washrooms and bathrooms as well as a recreation room were located above the vehicle shelter. There was even an infirmary for the horses. Today, from the approx. 100 fire-fighters, 24 are always on duty or work in the affiliated departments such as telecommunications, first-aid and the specialty department for radiation and measurement and test engineering, fire extinguisher repair shop, joiner’s workshop, fitter’s shop and in the clothing room. The Fire Station 1 is the oldest station of the 5 fire stations belonging to the Nuremberg municipal fire brigade.

It is the year 1902: Nuremberg gets a new, large fire station. At the moment the fire brigade is still answering to the fire alarm with harnessed horse teams but soon special motorised vehicles will be standing behind the large gates. Today, the impressive building is the oldest of five fire stations belonging to the Nuremberg municipal fire brigade.

The model complies with the early state of the station, with the soaring timber-framed tower for hose drying, heavy wooden gates, central bell tower and a terrace in the back.
