Mercedes Benz LP911 Marklin

In the 1950s, drastic dimensional and weight restrictions were imposed on trucks for the benefit of the freight traffic of the state-owned Deutsche Bundesbahn. The designers at Daimler Benz were thus forced to achieve the largest possible loading areas on the trucks despite the limited external dimensions. The so-called forward control design best met the new specifications. However, since Stuttgart feared that the cab-over-engine design might only be a passing fad, it was decided to offer both the cab-over-engine and the „Kurzhauber“ on the identical technical basis.
